Crack monster beat tot for waking him

By GUY PATRICK
Published: Today
A THUG high on crack cocaine tore out a two-year-old girl's hair and threw her into a wall - because she woke him.
Neil Keany, 27, attacked the terrified tot and her mum during 12 hours of sickening violence that left the girl with 30 injuries.
A court was told that the abuse began when the junkie awoke to the girl's crying.
He tried to smother her in her cot, saying she "needs killing, she needs to be taught a lesson" - then picked her up by her hair, hurled her so high against a wall that she slid down it, and bit her nose.
When the mum tried to help her daughter, Keany hit her and bit their fingers as the pair clung to each other.
He also chucked scalding tea over their heads.
They escaped after the woman pretended she would run away with him.
The tot was taken to hospital where staff said the ordeal left her screaming in terror.
Keany admitted charges including child cruelty and ABH at Preston Crown Court, Lancs.
He was jailed indefinitely and must serve at least 3½ years.
The girl's mum said: "I hope he rots. I'll always remember this."

The Japanese man arrested on Tuesday in connection with the killing of Lindsay Hawker is refusing to cooperate with investigators.
Tatsuya Ichihashi, 30, pictured here hours after his arrest - reportedly told police officers: 'I have no excuses and I don't want to say anything.'
Ichihashi was arrested in Osaka around 6pm on Tuesday after being on the run since March 2007, when the body of Ms Hawker, a 22-year-old British teacher, was found covered in sand in a bath tub on the balcony of his Tokyo apartment.
Ms Hawker's father Bill broke down yesterday as he told reporters he could now 'go to her grave and tell her it's over'.

Tatsuya Ichihashi, left, leaves Tokyo police station after he was arrested today following nearly three years on the run
After Ichihashi's arrest, he was taken by ferry to the remote southern islands of Okinawa, and then to Gyotoku Police Station for questioning today.
Police spokesman Takeshi Ootani said: 'Two officers started the questioning this morning and we have spent all day interrogating him.
'We plan to continue into this evening as well.
'The suspect has refused to say anything to the officers but we will continue to question him,' he said.
Ichihashi is being held on a technical charge of abandoning a body and can be held until November 22nd, according to Ootani.
At that point, he is likely to be formally charged, enabling the police to keep him in custody and continue to interrogate him about Ms Hawker's death.
The maximum penalty for murder in Japan is the death sentence, which is carried out by hanging.

Victim: Lindsay Hawker, who was murdered in Japan in 2007 at the age of 22

Prime suspect: The face of murder suspect Tatsuya Ichihashi (left) and an image released by police of what he looked like after plastic surgery
In Gifu, Ichihashi's home town in central Japan, his parents told reporters on Tuesday evening that he was 'relieved' his son had been arrested.
In a message to his son in an interview on national broadcaster NHK, Masayoshi Ichihashi said: 'You committed a crime. You must be brought to justice. I want you to atone for what you have done.'
Ichihashi said he and his wife, Nobuko, had been praying for Ms Hawker every day since March 2007 and hoped his son would make amends for her death.
'You probably think my son is a monster, but for us, he isn't like that. He was a sweet boy.
'These have been painful days for us.
'I cannot bear the thought of him undergoing plastic surgery to try to get away with this crime.
'Running away must have added to the pain and sorrow of the family of Miss Lindsay, as it has to us.'

Lindsay Ann Hawker's family (left to right) sister Louise, mother Julia, father Bill and sister Lisa, speak of their relief following the arrest of her suspected killer
The Hawkers made numerous trips to Japan to stoke media interest in the case amid claims of police incompetence and lack of interest.
Their daughter had been severely beaten and police believe she was held for 36 hours before being strangled.
Further information has also emerged about Ichihashi's 32 months on the run from the authorities.
This includes reports from former colleagues at the construction company where he worked for 13 months before his arrest that he was a loner, saved his money carefully and constantly wore a baseball cap and square-rimmed glasses.

Ichihashi, his head wrapped in clothing, is escorted by police into a bullet train at Osaka, Japan, to be brought to Tokyo for questioning
He was also involved in a fight with another employee last summer. A colleague intervened and later warned Ichihashi that could have killed the other man - at which point he reportedly broke down in tears.
Ichihashi earned around Y150,000 ( £1,005) a month as a labourer and earned a reputation in the company as a diligent worker.
Police believe he saved his wages to pay for a series of plastic surgery procedures to radically alter his features and continue to evade police.
A search by police of his room in a company dormitory have revealed a number of mirrors, an English dictionary and a partly completed application form for a passport in the name of Kosuka Inoue.
Shortly before the release of a new photo of Ichihashi subsequent to his latest facial operation, he collected his pay from the construction site and disappeared.
And despite a televised plea to hand himself in to authorities from his mother this week, police believe Ichihashi was planning to keep running.

Tears: Bill Hawker yesterday
A ticket officer at Osaka port contacted police on Tuesday evening to report that a man who may have been the suspect had purchsed a ticket for the 18-hour voyage to Okinawa
Wearing a baseball cap, dark-rimmed glasses and a flu mask, police approached Ichihashi shortly before 6 p.m. and questioned him for 10 minutes before he finally admitted: 'I am Ichihashi'.
Miss Hawker's father Bill broke down in tears yesterday as he stood outside the family home in Brandon, near Coventry, with his wife Julia, 50, and daughters Lisa, 26, and 22-year-old Louise.
Mr Hawker, 54, said: 'This has been a long hard battle and the battle is over. We wanted justice and we have finally got justice. He has no remorse and I hope that the Japanese give him the maximum penalty available.
'Our lives will never be the same but at least tonight we know that Ichihashi is caught and he can't destroy another family. I will go to Japan. I want to look Ichihashi in the eye. I want to see his evil eyes myself. 'We are just so relieved that this part of our lives is over. I can go to my daughter's grave and tell her. We want to see him locked away for ever.'
Mrs Hawker, paying tribute to her 'beautiful daughter', said: 'She was a fighter and that has been part of the reason why we have never been able to give up.'
ORAL SEX common among fruit bats, says research
Fruit bats regularly engage in oral sex, according to groundbreaking new research published in Science magazine.

The study found that more than two-thirds of female short-nosed fruit bats (Cynopterus sphinx) performed fellatio on their sexual partners, and that they were rewarded with longer bouts of intercourse as a result.
Previously, the only animals known to carry out oral sex – apart from humans – were bonobo chimpanzees.
However, the study, by Libiao Zhang and his team of biologists from Guangdong Entomological Institute in China, found that female bats were enthusiastic fellators, with 70 per cent performing oral sex on their mate during intercourse.
Science magazine reported: “Both sexes groomed each other during courtship. But then came the shocker.
“After the male mounted the female from behind, she bent over and began licking his penis.”
The research found that the longer a female licked for, the longer the intercourse: on average, a second of fellatio gained six seconds of intercourse. On average, mating lasted four minutes for fellators, twice the average of non-fellating females.
The researchers could only speculate why the females would want longer-lasting sex. They suggested that it could be a way to improve the transport of sperm, or to keep males away from rival females for longer.
Frans de Waal, a primatologist at Emory University in Atlanta and an expert on bonobo chimpanzees, said: "The finding of fellatio in bats is exciting news."
He went on to say that animal oral sex may be more common than we realise, but researchers’ prudery has prevented this fact becoming known. He said: "Part of the reason fellatio is rarely mentioned is shyness about this issue."
Paul Vasey, a behavioral scientist at the University of Lethbridge in Canada, said that there could be evolutionary reasons for fellatio, and that the fruit bat discovery could allow scientists to test it. He warned, however, that the bats could just be doing it for fun.
British people among world's ugliest, according to BeautifulPeople.com
Britons are among the ugliest people in the world, according to a website that only allows 'beautiful' people to join.

Fewer than one in eight British men (12 per cent) and just three in 20 women (15 per cent) who have applied to BeautifulPeople.com have been accepted as members.
Existing members of the website rate how attractive potential members are over a 48 hour provisional period, when applicants upload a recent photograph and a short personal profile.
They are rated by members of the opposite sex, who have four options to describe how attractive they think the hopeful is - 'Yes definitely', 'Hmmm yes, OK', 'Hmmm no, not really' and 'NO definitely NOT'.
Swedish men have proved the most successful applicants, with two-thirds (65 per cent) of those putting themselves forward being accepted.
Norwegian women are considered the most beautiful with more than three-quarters (76 per cent) making the grade.
Since the website was opened to UK members 295,000 people have applied, with only 35,000 being approved.
The website was founded in 2002 in Denmark and since then it has spread to other countries - becoming available in the UK in April 2005.
The 'elite dating site for beautiful people only', went live across the globe on 26 October this year. Over the past two weeks, the site has rejected nearly 1.8 million people from 190 countries.
From the total number of hopefuls, only 360,000 new members have been admitted - meaning five-out of-six applicants (83 per cent) have been turned away.
Sweden, Brazil and Norway are proving to be the most beautiful countries overall, with applicants from Germany and the UK among the least successful.
Beautiful People managing director Greg Hodge said: "Asking why British people are doing so badly is a tough question.
"It hurts me - I'm English.
"I think there is less emphasis on appearance in the UK than overseas.
"If you go to some countries they are very into how they look - very health and body conscious.
"The UK attitude is a bit more about kicking back and relaxing, and having a few drinks in the pub after work."
Mum to stand trial for baby murder

A WOMAN accused of murdering and dismembering a newborn baby 13 years ago has been committed to stand trial.
Cairns magistrate Sandra Pearson ordered Violet Flora Evans, 53, to stand trial for murder, saying there was sufficient evidence for a jury to convict.
Read more on this story and pictures at The Cairns Post
The widow and mother-of-one is charged with murder, concealing a birth and interfering with a corpse.
It's alleged Ms Evans murdered the baby boy soon after giving birth to him in May 1996, before cutting him in half and disposing of the body parts.
The boy's torso was found by a nearby resident who saw a dog playing with it in his driveway on May 4.
No clear cause of death has been determined but Evans' committal hearing last month heard an autopsy revealed traces of faecal matter in the boy's lungs, suggesting he may have been drowned in a toilet bowl.
The breakthrough in the case last year came after a public tip-off and through use of advanced DNA technology.
During last month's week-long committal hearing, a police witness told the court that Ms Evans had confessed to police she cut her newborn's body in half after it stopped breathing.
During the police interview, Ms Evans also allegedly revealed details of an extramarital affair, allegedly admitting the baby's father was not her husband but a man called "Michael" whom she met through her church.
In making her case at the end of the hearing, police prosecutor Sharon Steward submitted that the desperate lengths Ms Evans allegedly took to conceal her pregnancy and the baby allegedly fathered by her secret lover gave her a motive form urder.
But defence barrister Tony Kimmins accused police investigators of "badgering" Ms Evans during an eight-hour interview, asking leading questions until she gave them the answers they wanted.
The Supreme Court is yet to set a date for the trial.
Men with erectile dysfunction offered new hope after penis tissue regrown in lab
By Daily Mail Reporter

Penis tissue grown in a lab helped 10 out of 12 male rabbits to successfully mate in tests
A penis implant grown in the laboratory and tested on highly-sexed rabbits could bring new hope to thousands of men.
Scientists in the US completely rebuilt the 'stiffening' elements of the penis from donor cells - and showed that they worked.
Male rabbits given the implants attempted to mate within one minute of being introduced to a female partner, and 83 per cent succeeded.
Study leader Professor Anthony Atala from Wake Forest University in New Carolina, said: 'Our results are encouraging and suggest that the technology has considerable potential for patients who need penile reconstruction.
'Our hope is that patients with congenital abnormalities, penile cancer, traumatic injury and some cases of erectile dysfunction will benefit from this technology in the future.'
The mammalian penis is a surprisingly complex organ which once damaged is difficult to repair.
Erections are achieved by means of two sponge-like cylinders, or 'corporal bodies', on each side of the penis that fill with blood.
Disease and injury can lead to loss of the erectile tissue, which may also waste away if no erections occur for too long. This is a risk faced by patients who have had surgery for prostate cancer.
In extreme cases artificial silicone rods can be implanted into the penis but they do not function in a natural way.
The new research focused on growing new erectile tissue in the laboratory from seeded cells.
First cells similar to those lining blood vessels, were harvested from the erectile tissue of male rabbits.
Using a two-step process, these were then grown on a three-dimensional collagen 'scaffolds' bathed in chemicals.
Finally the scaffolds holding the developing cells were implanted into the penises of rabbits whose erectile tissue had been surgically removed.
A month after the implants were inserted tissue with blood vessel structures began to form.
Laboratory tests showed that the biological responses of the erectile tissue were normal with a relaxation of smooth muscle tissue and an influx of blood.
The scientists used the implants in 12 male white rabbits. They were then introduced to female partners and attempted to mate within one minute. Vaginal swabs showed that 10 of them managed to transfer sperm into the females. This occurred as early as one month after the implants were inserted.
Most of an equal number of male rabbits lacking erectile tissue that did not receive implants made no attempt to mate. None of them succeeded in transferring sperm.
The research was published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Driver Crashes Pickup Truck Into Tampa Airport Aquarium
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 rint
TAMPA, Florida — The driver and the child in her lap survived when a pickup truck slammed into a 1,500-gallon aquarium at Tampa International Airport. The tropical fish were not so lucky.
Airport officials say 36-year-old Yamile Campuzano-Martine lost control of her truck and drove into the saltwater tank outside the American Airlines
baggage claim Monday night. Airport spokeswoman Brenda Geoghagan said the driver had an unrestrained 6-year-old boy in her lap.
About 90 percent of the 30 to 40 saltwater fish
in the tank were killed.
The aquarium was part of a public art program.
Washington sniper put to death: A needle stuck in each arm, he blinked repeatedly, took seven short breaths and he was gone

The last picture: A mugshot of Muhammad handed out by the Virginia Department of Corrections
The Washington sniper was executed by lethal injection last night just a few miles from the city he terrorised for three weeks.
John Allen Muhammad was led into Virginia's death chamber and within seconds he was lying on a gurney, tapping his left foot, his arms spread wide with a needle dug into each.
'Mr. Muhammad, do you have any last words?' the warden asked the mastermind behind the attacks that killed 10 people in 2002.
Muhammad, calm and stoic, was defiant to the end, refusing to speak. But just a few hours before it was revealed that the killer had asked his ex-wife to tell his children of his love for them.
Carol Williams and son Lindbergh, 27, saw Muhammad hours before his death. She told U.S. talkshow host Larry King how she had received a letter from Muhammad just days ago.
She added: 'He wanted his kids to know how much he loved them. He loved his kids so much. And he wanted them to know that.'
The 48-year-old died by injection at 9:11pm as relatives of the victims watched, reliving the killing spree that terrorised the Washington DC area for three weeks that October.
Victims' families sat behind glass, separated from the rest of the 27 witnesses, who were quiet, looking straight forward, intent on what was happening.
'He died very peacefully, much more than most of his victims,' said Prince William County prosecutor Paul Ebert, who witnessed the execution at Greensville Correctional Centre, south of Richmond.
Muhammad was executed for killing Dean Harold Meyers, who was shot in the head at a Manassas petrol station during the spree across Maryland, Virginia and the U.S. capital.
Answers to why he and a teenage accomplice methodically hunted people going about their daily business, why he chose his victims, including a schoolboy on his way to class, and how many there were went to the grave with him.
Meyers' brother, Bob Meyers, said watching the execution was sobering and 'surreal.'
He added that other witnesses expressed a range of feelings, including some who were overcome with emotion.

'I would have liked him at some point in the process to take responsibility, to show remorse,' Meyers said.
'We didn't get any of that tonight.'
After the first of the three-drug lethal cocktail was administered, Muhammad blinked repeatedly and took about seven deep breaths. Within a minute, he was motionless.
Nelson Rivera, whose wife, Lori Ann Lewis-Rivera, was gunned down as she vacuumed her van at a Maryland petrol station, said that when he watched Muhammad's chest moving for the last time, he was glad.
'I feel better. I think I can breathe better,' he said. 'I'm glad he's gone because he's not going to hurt anyone else.'
J. Wyndal Gordon, one of Muhammad's attorneys, described his client in his final hours as fearless and still insisting he was innocent.
'He will die with dignity - dignity to the point of defiance,' Gordon said before going inside to watch the execution.
The killer's last meal was chicken in red sauce, followed by strawberry cakes, his lawyer added.

The terror ended on October 24, 2002, when police captured Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo while they slept at a Maryland rest stop in a car they had outfitted for a shooter to perch in its boot without being detected.
Malvo, who was 17 when carrying out the attacks, was sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing Linda Franklin, a 47-year-old FBI analyst who was shot as she and her husband loaded supplies at a Home Depot in Falls Church, Virginia.
The men also were suspected of fatal shootings in other states, including Louisiana, Alabama and Arizona.
The U.S. Supreme Court turned down Muhammad's final appeal Monday, and Governor Timothy M. Kaine denied clemency Tuesday.
Muhammad's attorneys had asked Kaine to commute his sentence to life in prison because they said Muhammad was severely mentally ill.
'I think crimes that are this horrible, you just can't understand them, you can't explain them,' said Kaine, a Democrat known for carefully considering death penalty cases.

A small group of death penalty opponents gathered on a grassy area near the prison and had a sign reading, 'We remember the victims, but not with more killing.'
Muhammad was born John Allen Williams and changed his name after converting to Islam. He had been in and out of the military since he graduated from high school in Louisiana and entered the National Guard. He joined the Army in 1985.
He did not take special sniper training but earned an expert rating in the M-16 rifle - the military cousin of the .223-caliber Bushmaster rifle used in the Washington shootings.
The motive for the attacks remains murky.
Malvo said Muhammad wanted to extort $10 million from the government to set up a camp in Canada where homeless children would be trained as terrorists.
Muhammad's ex-wife said she believes they were a smoke screen for his plan to kill her and regain custody of their three children.

Sonia Hollingsworth-Wills, the mother of Conrad Johnson, the last man slain that October, sat in the back seat of a car outside the prison before the execution, which she chose not to witness. But she said she wanted to be there and was counting the minutes until Muhammad's death.
'It was the most horrifying day of my life,' she said. 'I'll never get complete closure but at least I can put this behind me.'
Cheryll Witz, who's father Jerry Taylor, was fatally shot on a Tucson, Arizona, golf course in March 2002, said she was unhappy that Muhammad didn't say anything before he died. But she said his execution begins a new chapter in her life.
'I've waited seven long years for this,' she said. 'My life is totally beginning now. I have all my closure, and my justice and my peace.'
Arkansas Anchorwoman's Face Shattered 'Like an Egg' During Attack
Tuesday, November 10, 2009

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — One blow ruined her smile and others crushed the middle of her face, but the attack on television personality Anne Pressly didn't end until after her jaw was forced to the back of her head and cut off blood flow to her brain, a medical examiner said Tuesday.
Prosecutors rested their capital murder case against Curtis Lavelle Vance, 29, after testimony from the state's deputy medical examiner, who spoke about Pressly's final moments of consciousness.
Vance, of Marianna, has pleaded not guilty to murder, rape and burglary. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.
Defense lawyers questioned crime scene technicians about where they did — and did not — find blood, and asked Police Chief Stuart Thomas whether officers explored multiple theories. He said they had.
DNA specialists initially questioned by prosecutors were recalled to the stand to discuss genetic evidence gathered at the scene that didn't have a match.
Vance's legal team said it may call two additional witnesses Wednesday, then expects to rest. Pulaski County Circuit Judge Chris Piazza scheduled a court session Wednesday despite the rest of the courthouse being closed for Veterans Day, and jurors could begin deliberations by the end of the day.
Dr. Stephen Erickson said an examination of Pressly's body after her death revealed that her face shattered "like an egg" during the attack. "I could feel crunchiness" while examining Pressly's face, he said. A photo he used showed her nose pushed to one side.
Erickson said some type of object likely was used during the attack — the butt of a pistol or perhaps some type of club.
Pressly, the co-host of a morning TV show who had a bit part in the President Bush biopic "W," was hit so hard that a tooth — root intact — flew to her bedroom floor. Another blow crushed bones in the middle of her face. Another shoved her jaw backward, leaving her brain starved for blood.
Injuries like Pressly's require a "high degree" of force — and end with a high degree of mortality, Erickson said.
Pressly, 26, was attacked early Oct. 20, 2008, at her home in Little Rock. Her mother, unable to reach Pressly by telephone, found her daughter shortly before she was due on KATV's "Daybreak" program.
CT scans taken after the attack showed that her swollen brain gradually died. By Oct. 25, 2008, the day Pressly died, her brain was so swollen that no blood could enter.
Erickson said it was possible that Pressly felt pain even after the attack — even if she couldn't have responded to anyone.
The examiner also said Pressly's left forearm had an abrasion, consistent with being held tightly, and that her left hand was swollen, blue and broken in five places.
Erickson said Pressly had injuries consistent with being raped. Defense lawyer Katherine Street, however, questioned whether they could have been caused by a medical examination. Erickson said it was possible, but said it appeared they were inflicted about the time of the attack.
On a tape played for jurors Monday, Vance told a police detective that he beat Pressly with a piece of wood that he found in her backyard — but never explained why. "I lose control, she lose control," Vance said in the February interview.
Police witnesses said DNA evidence linked Vance to Pressly's death and to a Marianna rape case in which he has pleaded not guilty.
The defense has said police duped Vance into confessing and giving officers a DNA sample to compare with evidence in the case.
Lindsay Lohan 'was having secret affair with Heath Ledger at time of his death'
By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 11:22 PM on 10th November 2009
Lindsay Lohan's mother Dina has allegedly claimed that her daughter was dating actor Heath Ledger at the time of his death.
The 23-year-old actress was said to be in a secret relationship with Heath when he died of an accidental overdose in January 2008.
In an audio tape of a 2008 phone conversation between Lindsay's parents Dina and Michael Lohan, Dina claims that the pair were dating.

Lindsay Lohan, seen here crying after learning of Heath Ledger's death last January, was apparently dating the actor when he died of an accidental overdose
According to reports, Dina said: 'And she was dating Heath when he died. I don't know if you know that, but I know 'cause I would drop her off and they were friends very, very close, OK?'
Dina then went on to say to Michael that she was afraid for Lindsay's life, too.
She said: 'Because when she's drunk or takes an Adderall with it, she will do something like Heath Ledger did in a second without thinking.'
Dina gave the chilling overdose warning in a phone call to the star's father - who then released it to a U.S. TV show.
Michael insisted: 'She told me she fears Lindsay will end up like Heath Ledger.'

The actor seen here two months before his death in New York
Michael says his daughter is taking a bevy of stimulants including the ADHD drug Adderol and he is horrified at how drug abuse is destroying his child's looks.
'She's a beautiful girl but she looks 100 years old,' Michael complained.
Michael says he is planning even more desperate steps to force his daughter into seeking life-saving help.
'I am going to go to court to get a legal conservatorship to get Lindsay into rehab and finally get her off all the prescription meds,' he said.
'Dina is going to sit down with me and the lawyers and make things right for Lindsay. She is taking Adderol, Xanax, Paxil.'
His actions already sparked a legal battle as Dina was horrified that he would go public with her messages to him.

Lindsay with parents Michael and Dina in 2003 who, in a phone conversation together, are said to have talked about their daughter and Ledger
'He's getting a cease-and-desist letter. If it's something personal about your child, you don't go public with it,' she said.
But Michael defended his decision, insisting drastic action is needed to save Lindsay.
'I have been trying for a year to help Lindsay with her problems privately through Lindsay, her mom, her attorney Blair Berk and even her new attorney Shawn Holley and the courts.
'But when that didn't work, and the calls I was getting from Dina and Lindsay needed immediate attention, it was recommended to me to go public in order to put pressure on Lindsay.
